HD Brows has launched weekend training dates at its Leeds, Milton Keynes and Glasgow academies, giving time-poor therapists and salon owners more options to train with the brand. The dates are: February 11–12, March 18–19 and April 8–9. The company has also appointed Rebecca Judic as national trade sales manager.

Professional tanning brand Norvell has signed Strictly Come Dancing star Kristina Rihanoff as its brand ambassador. Rihanoff will promote the brand at events and talk about the importance of an HD-ready tan.

International beauty standards body Cidesco is offering salons and spas a year’s free membership, if they meet the entry and inspection requirements. Membership includes access to a global network of industry professionals and an invitation to the annual Cidesco World Congress event.

Hair and beauty salon Beautan in Rotherham has opened with a £500 Kickstart Fund grant from UK Steel Enterprise. Owners Rebecca Duffy and Victoria Gale used the money to invest in marketing collateral and staff uniforms.

Dr Dev Patel has been announced as key opinion leader (KOL) for cosmeceutical brand Alumier MD in 2018. An original member of the brand’s advisory board, Patel will assist with clinical trials and represent the brand at consumer and trade events.

Nutraceutical collagen drink Totally Derma has appointed Harpar Grace as its UK and Ireland distributor. Harpar Grace also distributes Codage, Déesse Pro and iS Clinical. Totally Derma contains bio-absorbable collagen amino acid peptides and claims to repair skin firmness.

The long-awaited ban on the use of microbeads in cosmetic products came into force on January 9. Manufacturers can no longer use the plastic beads in rinse-off products such as exfoliators and shower gels. A ban on the sale of existing products will follow on June 20.

Nail brand Semilac has invested £50,000 in a new distribution premises in West Bromwich to keep up with increasing demand and to allow its training academy in Solihull to grow. UK managing director Antonio Socci said: “Our business is going from strength to strength. The move means the Solihull salon space can become larger, offering some great new facilities.”

Crystal Clear is hosting a series of Ultimate Immersive Masterclasses to help salon owners boost their businesses. The classes, run by founder Sharon Hilditch and taking place on February 12 in Dublin and March 12 in Manchester, will cover product knowledge plus business topics including social media skills.

Comfort Zone has launched into Kohler Waters Spa at St Andrews Old Course Hotel in Scotland. Guests will now be able to enjoy Comfort Zone treatments and buy homecare products. The spa recently reopened following a multi-million pound renovation.
