Taking the perfect “nailfie” is crucial to securing new clientele, with more customers seeking out nail techs on social media than ever before. More than half of you (59%) say using the right hand posture is key, while 24% believe filters on Instagram and Facebook add another dimension to their picture.

A fifth of you (20%) advocate using polish bottles as cute props to help showcase your work, and 19% swear by coloured backgrounds, while just under a fifth (19%) have invested in a light box to give their images a super professional look.

With more kids-only salons popping up in the UK, just under half of you are now offering, or considering adding, nail services for children to your menu, seeing it as a growing segment that could prove lucrative.

35% of you have also reported that women aged 36–45 are now a major client base, seeing more growth in this group than any other over the past 12 months. For the latest nail news, turn to page 129.

METHODOLOGY Insider is compiled from a monthly survey of spas and beauty salons. The people who participated represent a crosssection of the industry and were polled by email from August 6–10, regarding business for the month to July 31. Nail business for the Insider Nails page was calculated from data provided by spas and salons that offer nail services among other treatments. The figures given represent the average score for each answer. Brands are ranked when mentioned by several respondents.
