LET THERE be light

LED light therapy is the perfect add-on service for your salon. The team at Celluma explains why

Nothing quite beats the versatility and effectiveness of LED light therapy as an add-on service. This painless and relaxing treatment adds a powerful punch to complete and significantly enhance most aesthetic treatments.

Light therapy works by providing much-needed energy to under-functioning cells, so they perform optimally. Cells that absorb the light energy experience an increase in adenosine triphosphate (ATP), resulting in improved performance and beneficial downstream effects. For example, fibroblast cells will increase collagen and elastin production to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and help increase the rate of wound and lesion closure.

It makes sense that improving customer satisfaction will result in happier customers, repeat business, and new referrals. For the skincare specialist, a light therapy add-on will enhance procedure outcomes, reduce downtime, redness, healing duration, and the potential for complications, including scarring.

Combination therapies

Light therapy is an ideal add-on in aesthetic practices following most ablative and non-ablative procedures, including laser, microdermabrasion, microneedling, peels, injectables, and more. LED light therapy has been shown to decrease recovery time by increasing microcirculation, decreasing inflammation and pain levels and generally enhancing overall outcomes.

Research has shown that light therapy can accelerate tissue repair, decrease wound size, hasten the resolution of erythema, accelerate wound closure and prevent dehiscence¹. When used prior to surgery, light therapy may reduce the incidence of hypertrophic scars and keloids². Additional benefits include post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation prevention², and activation of mast, macrophage and neutrophil cells to decrease inflammation and activate immune responses.

Using red and blue light

Acne has been shown to respond positively to blue, and red combination LED light therapy. The blue light energy has been proven to kill acne-causing bacteria, while the red light treats several aspects of the condition, including reducing the appearance and redness of acne lesions.

Red light therapy increases microcirculation, which helps acneic skin to heal and repair. The negative effects of acne range from facial scarring to devastating social and emotional distress as well as poor selfperception. Light therapy can be a game changer for the acne inflicted and is a simple, comfortable, noninvasive add-on that acne patients welcome.

Whether your specialty is ageing skin, acne treatment or pain management, light therapy is the go-to modality for advancing treatment results, as well as patient satisfaction.
