EDITOR’S COMMENT
With spring around the corner, we’re looking to the future this month. While we’re not out of the woods yet when it comes to the effects of coronavirus cancellations, it’s inspiring to see salon owners pull together to effect change. From the new Salon Employers Association (see page 12) to the efforts of existing bodies (page 11), there are more strong voices than ever fighting for our industry to be heard.
And we’re excited to have many of those voices supporting Professional Beauty London this year. The show, which runs on April 3–4 at ExCeL, followed by an online-only day on April 5, has a stellar line-up of speakers. The NHBF is supporting our two Business Skills Stages, which will host names including PB columnist Hellen Ward, business coaches Ryan and Hollie Power, and salon owners such as Liza Smith and Susan Routledge sharing their wisdom on everything from TikTok to team training, and from starting a business to setting boundaries. We’ve also got stages covering skin and advanced treatments, nails and make-up, organic products and more, as well as conference programmes for spa and manufacturing, and all the major brand launches, demos and offers you’ve come to expect. Check out what’s in store from page 56.
And to get you in the mood for all the newness you’ll see at the show, this issue also takes a look at the trends set to shape the salon and spa market this season. Our SS22 nails and make-up focus (from page 81) goes retro with looks inspired by ’90s and ’00s styles. Meanwhile, our feature on CBD (page 75) delves deeper into the trending ingredient, looking at spas that have gone beyond the basic retail and massage oils to create authentic and immersive offerings that include CBD bedrooms, mocktails, educational talks and more. We hope you find some inspiration among these pages this month.
