With coronavirus continuing to impact trading for nail businesses across the country, looking after your stock has never been more important. Many of you get the most shelf life out of your nail kit by tightly closing the lids on bottles when not in use (83%), while a further 80% keep these items out of direct sunlight and away from other heat sources like radiators. Just under half (44%) also follow the life span indicated by the expiry date religiously.

Meanwhile, nail demonstrations and tutorials online have soared this year, and half of you say the most inspirational sessions are taking place on YouTube, with image-based platform Instagram coming in second (35%). However, one in 10 are still turning to private groups and nail company pages on Facebook for design ideas.

METHODOLOGY Insider is compiled from a monthly survey of spas and beauty salons. The people who participated represent a cross-section of the industry and were polled by email from October 29–November 6, regarding business for the month to October 31. Nail business for the Insider Nails page was calculated from data provided by salons that offer nail services among other treatments. The figures given represent the average score for each answer. Brands are ranked when mentioned by several respondents.
