More people self-diagnose skin conditions than seek professional help

People are more likely to seek help for a skin condition by searching online than visiting an expert, according to the latest YouGov data.

27% of people have consulted the internet for help, while only 19% have seen a dermatologist, the survey found.

Skincare brand Dermalex, which manufactures products to treat skin conditions, commissioned YouGov to conduct the survey into the population’s experiences with conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and acne.

It found that 50% of the UK’s adult population has suffered with a skin condition but 38% of sufferers didn’t fully understand their condition, and 28% have covered up their skin due to embarrassment.
