Nail techs up and down the country have reported business as stable, with treatment revenue and the sales of retail products remaining on par with April last year. Out of the 34 manicures and pedicures you performed on average each week, you reported that most clients returned to the salon to have their enhancements removed rather than doing it at home.
You cited nail brand Jessica as the best for gel-polish training, with Gelish, OPI and CND also making it into the top four. More than half of you now also offer basic manis or pedis to under 16s. For more information on the latest nail industry developments, including a look at the first gel-polish remover in gel form, turn to page 103.

METHODOLOGY Insider is compiled from a monthly telephone survey of spas and beauty salons. The survey is conducted by us, exclusively for you. The people who participated represent a crosssection of the industry from high-end spas to high-street salons. They were polled by phone from May 3–8, regarding business for the month to April 30. Nail business for the Insider Nails page was calculated from data provided by spas and salons that offer nail services among other treatments. The figures given represent the average score for each answer. Brands are ranked when mentioned by several respondents. Those listed at the top received the highest number of mentions. Thank you to everyone who participated in this month’s survey.
