■ The “selfie generation” is helping to drive up the UK cosmetics market with sales increasing by £55m over the past 12 months (52 w/e up to March 18, 2017), according to figures from data company IRL. The popularity of selfies from social media stars has seen sales of bronzers rise 87% year on year to £43m, and concealers rise 24% to £52m.

Finishing Touch Clinic in Consett, County Durham, has become the latest salon to partner with laser hair-removal brand Hair No More. The salon is owned by beauty business consultant Susan Routledge.

■ “Alternative” beauty salon Eighty 83 has opened in Basford, Nottinghamshire, to cater for clients who prefer an edgy look. Co-owner Mat Dennis said: “The salon will have a comfortable, rustic feel.”

■ Industry standard-setting body Cidesco has opened up membership to brands and suppliers. Its new associate membership is available to businesses and individuals. Cidesco International president Anna-Cari Gund said: “By opening up our membership to those brands and individuals who share our aims, together we can achieve even more.”

Joanne Green as has been appointed spa director of The Spa at Ramside in Durham. Green, who previously worked for Aqua Sana at Center Parcs, will be responsible for running the multimillionpound health and leisure complex and driving business growth.
