Elaine Beattie

Recruiting and retaining amazing salon staff is an ongoing challenge for spas and salons – and one that was only exacerbated by the pandemic. Elaine Beattie, owner of All About You salon near Gateshead, has picked up some interesting ideas and skills during her 35 years in the industry.

In our first full episode of The Pro Beauty Pod, PB editor Eve Oxberry sits down with Elaine to get her top tips on staff retention, covering how to keep staff motivated with regular training and career development opportunities, as well as the importance of focusing on work-life balance and mental wellbeing and knowing when to involve your salon or spa team in business decisions.

They also chat about Elaine’s time spent working for brands and on cruise ships, as well as how she set up her first salon.

Episode 2: PB Therapist of the Year Lucie Allen on holistic therapy and wellness

Kezia Parkins
Lucie Allen

Lucie Allen, New Forest-based beauty therapist and Professional Beauty Awards Therapist of the Year 2023, has some of the most varied education and experience. As an avid learner, her unquenchable thirst for knowledge has led her to achieve qualifications in everything from nail technology and dermatology to nutrition and microbiology.

In this episode, Kezia Parkins sits down with Lucie to discuss her varied experience, how it felt to be a PB Award winner after being a finalist twice, and her love and passion for all things holistic wellness.

They also talk about the importance of looking after yourself as a therapist, and Lucie shares what she does to ensure her mind and body are looked after in order for her to be able to look after her clients.

Episode 3: Letitia Sophia on making it as a celeb MUA

Lollie Hancock
Letitia Sophia
