Urban Retreat leaves Harrods, replaced by in-store salon

London luxury department store Harrods is replacing Urban Retreat with an in-house hair and beauty salon.

As Professional Beauty went to print, The Harrods Hair & Beauty salon was due to open on April 23 and Urban Retreat was due to cease trading on April 22, ending a fifteen-year partnership with Harrods.

The new salon will occupy the former Urban Retreat space on the store’s fifth floor and, on opening, will offer nail services, facials, hair removal and waxing, as well as keeping Harrods’ onsite hammam.

Moving forwards, Harrods said it would make “substantial investments” over the following months to provide an “industry-leading luxury service proposition to customers”.

It will soon begin work on the expansion of its Beauty Hall over two floors, adding new beauty retail experiences.

Meanwhile, Urban Retreat founder George Hammer plans to focus on expanding his concept into other sites elsewhere.
