EDITOR’S COMMENT
With focus intensifying around the safety of advanced aesthetic treatments, a new parliament report has called for a faster turnaround on the proposed licensing scheme for non-surgical procedures, and a new system to warn people when images used to promote products or treatments have been digitally altered (see page 11).
With beauty purchases increasingly being influenced by social media (see page 16), any move to help change unrealistic portrayals of body image on the platforms can only be a positive thing and the leading beauty associations have been vocal in their support of the report’s recommendations.
As Hellen Ward mentions in her column on page 35, many of us fall into the trap of focusing far too much on the negatives we experience on social media, even when they are far outweighed by the positives.
Social media trends are also playing an ever-growing role in the services clients are seeking from salons and spas and this issue we take a closer look at two of the biggest. Our feature on slugging (see page 77) explains everything you need to know about the skincare trend, separating the hype from the facts and getting the expert lowdown on who it is suitable for.
We also spoke to the tech behind the biggest recent nail trend – the clean girl mani – for her take on why it’s taken off and how to perfect the look on your own clients. Find out more on page 83.
