EDITOR’S COMMENT
Welcome to this “show issue” of Professional Beauty. After such a long time away from major in-person events, we are over the moon to be able to bring the industry back together at Excel London this month, to catch up, network, share ideas and, of course, see all the latest trends and launches from the best professional brands. To see what we have in store on October 17–18, check out our full show preview from page 49.
As the industry reconnects face to face, this issue also takes a look at new ways to connect with clients in the salon. In our focus on caring for clients with cancer, Jennifer Young explains the training, insurance and consultation methods you need in order to offer a safe treatment. Meanwhile, Hellen Ward outlines the universal truths all therapists should know when it comes to communicating with their customers in her column on page 37, from how to inspire them with new ideas to the taboo topics to avoid.
Connecting with your clients online can be even more challenging as it can sometimes be hard to cut through the noise in order to not only grab their attention but hold their loyalty. In our feature on page 91, two “instafamous” nail techs explain how they achieved their status, what they’ve done to maintain it, and how they juggle their social media profiles with busy appointment books.
Reconnecting with our teams has also been a huge focus this year, and as we await the results of the 2021 Professional Beauty Awards on October 17, we catch up with 2020’s Employer of the Year Carla Chatburn on page 71 to find out her secrets for keeping therapists motivated and her plans for a successful year ahead.
