62% of Brits tip their beauty therapist after a trip to the salon

Although tipping isn’t mandatory in the UK, a new survey has revealed that just under two thirds of Brits (62%) give their therapist a little extra cash post-treatment.

The most popular reason for tipping, given by 61% of respondents to marketplace OnBuy.com’s survey, was “it’s just how things are done”.

Meanwhile, 24% said they would feel ashamed not to, and 15% said they tip because they don’t think beauty therapists get paid enough. Only 38% of Brits said they don’t and won’t leave a tip. Meanwhile, hairdressers came out as one of the highest tipped professions, with 73% of clients giving a little extra.

The most tipped profession is restaurant waiting staff at 88%.

This study comes after the National Hairdressers’ Federation (NHF) revealed that 47% of its beauty and hair salon members have experienced a drop in the number of tips left by clients in recent years.
