Do you adapt your services for neurodiverse clients?

@victoria_at777 “I make sure I have fidget toys on hand as certain sensations that come with having lash services or even having to lie still for a long time can be a challenge, so these are a great distraction!”

@mila.x.grass “This is so important. I have always adjusted the playlist and stay mindful of the types of conversation, touch therapy, aromas and clutter.”

@cosmetology_hub “Yes! I’m neurodivergent so I find it easier to understand my neurodivergent clients. Extra time explaining my treatment steps, knowing when they want to switch off, how much information can be absorbed at once, easing any anxiety, calming them and creating a safe space so they can info dump if needed ”

@the_good_skin_method “I’m an HR director (retraining in skin!) working for an assistive tech company that makes tech for neurodivergent people. A lot of my role is spent advising on adjustments. I’d suggest comms is absolutely critical to support neurodivergent clients. Ensure it’s clear and consistent, and set up reminders for appointments. Fidget toys are brilliant, as well as being aware of sensory needs. If you’re able to have light and dark mode on your website, use TLDR in your newsletters, explain clearly the location and interiors of the clinic such as what the waiting area is like – all these things will support neurodivergent clients.”

Sarah Kerr “Yes, I have a couple of clients who I adapt my space and myself for. I turn the music down, I keep my conversation to a minimum if anything at all. If it’s a first appointment I’ll often ask if they would like me to explain the process of any treatment I’m carrying out. This often can help to settle the mind of the client if they are nervous.”

Robyn Watson Hair “Although I offer silent appointments, it’s more the subtle changes in atmosphere that I make to accommodate that tends to be well received. I am neurodivergent (ASD) and also adjust my work space/time/life to accommodate myself ”
