As we move into autumn and the last quarter of the year, plans within the majority of salons and spas - as for many industries - remain in flux. With new statistics suggesting that summer didn’t bring with it the consistent level of business that beauty salons were hoping for (see page 14 for more details), most are now putting plans in place for a stronger end to the year as client confidence improves and the Christmas season approaches. For most, retail is a key part of that plan, and this issue we round up some of the best seasonal gift sets from the professional brands. Our guide on page 69 has something for every client’s budget.

But as all good therapists know, the key to repeat business is usually trust, and finding solutions for a skin concern that causes your client emotional as well as physical distress is a surefire way of earning that. Our rosacea feature on page 61 takes a closer look at the condition, its causes and the many ways you can put together a personalised programme to treat it.

Meanwhile, our interview with holistic facialist Marie Reynolds this month (see page 53) takes client loyalty right back to the consultation. Reynolds shares her tips for reading the client’s body language and asking the questions you need to move beyond what they are telling you verbally and discover the root causes of their skin concerns.

However you’re planning for success this season, factor in some of PB’s webinars, which deliver live and interactive advice from top salon and spa professionals completely free. Find out more at professionalbeauty.co.uk/webinars
