British Beauty Week Trade Hub

Bafta, London

British Beauty Week 2024 took place from October 23-27, running under the theme of “A beauty industry that looks like you”, which aimed to highlight the importance of representation and inclusion in British beauty. As part of British Beauty Week, the British Beauty Council held a Trade Hub featuring a range of panel discussions with industry experts. Senior content writer Ellen Cummings went along to the Bafta building in Central London for the morning sessions, where she heard about the future of skincare formulations, how we can make the beauty industry more diverse, and a debate about teen beauty and influencer culture. Panellists included expert facialist Teresa Tarmey, makeup artist Dominic Skinner and Elemis’s head of innovation, Sarah Griffiths.

Germaine de Capuccini discovery event

The Ministry, London

Germaine de Capuccini (GDC) hosted a brand discovery event to introduce its latest products and treatment launches to its UK spa and salon accounts, as well as press including PB editor Eve Oxberry. The guests saw the new Sperience and Expert Lab treatments in action, at the hands of GDC educators including head of training Gina Baker, and checked out a range of new products including Retinight Serum for overnight skin renewal. There was plenty of time to catch up with the GDC team and with industry professionals from spas such as Carden Park, Four Seasons and Underscar over a glass of champagne before guests left with a goodie bag of the new launches to try at home.

Babtac & Cibtac Awards 2024

Fairmont Windsor Park, Berkshire

The winners of the 2024 Babtac and Cibtac Awards were announced on November 10 during a black-tie dinner. Eve went along to the event, which this year had 20 categories to celebrate beauty therapists, salons, spas, trainers and students. Winners included Shanna’s Infusion of Beauty, Dursley, as Individual Salon, Beauty and Aesthetics at the Gate, Grimsby, for Large Salon, Jenny Storey, Urban Retreat, as Employer and Hayley Snishko, Home Sanctuary, as Specialist Therapist.

The Beauty Beat

Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London

The Beauty Beat is an annual luxury beauty event for Black women. Happening over the weekend of November 2, the event, which was sponsored by social media platform TikTok, was the largest yet. It featured a roster of brands including Glossify, Fenty Beauty, Nars and Topicals. PB’s deputy editor Kezia Parkins went along to watch the live stage, which featured two days of talks around Black beauty and hair. The skincare panel was particularly enlightening and included Aesthetic Medicine Awards’ Aesthetic Practitioner of the Year 2024 Dr Ifeoma Ejikeme, as well as previous PB London 2024 speakers aestheticians Alicia Lartey and Okikiola Emaleku, aka The Skin Priest.

Aspiration Event

No.11 Cavendish Square, London

The pHformula UK and Ireland team gathered in Central London to mark a decade of the brand in the UK and Ireland. The event brought together pHformula skin specialists, as well as PB’s Ellen, for a day of educational talks led by Susanna Porras, head of education at Art Club Barcelona, along with pHformula’s UK educator, Robert RussellHaworth-Dunne.

There was also an awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of individuals, salons and clinics that work with the brand, with categories including dedication to education, best social media presence and remarkable results. The event then concluded with a champagne reception.

Mac masterclasses

Mac Store Carnaby Street, London

Kezia went down to the Mac store to attend two masterclasses. The first was with senior artist Carly Utting exclusively for professional tutors and covered some of the hottest trends we will see in makeup in 2025, one of which was ‘soft grunge’, which Utting demonstrated on her model, using mixed metals. It was fascinating to hear from tutors teaching makeup about issues concerning their students.

The second masterclass, led by Natalie Price and Zakiyah Shani, was for Black History Month and demonstrated two looks with some of Mac’s best products and shades for skin of colour. Shani did a gorgeous soft glam with a cool-toned palette on her model to demonstrate that cool colours can work wonderfully on deeper skin tones while Price went for a more skin-focused dewy base with a glossy red lip and copper highlights.
