Beauty is back! As this issue went to print, we’d just received the news we have all been waiting and fighting for: that treatments on the face can resume in England from August 15.

Of course, there are caveats - local lockdown restrictions are still in place in some areas, therapists must now wear a type-II surgical mask as well as a visor during treatments, and sauna and steam areas must remain closed at the time of writing, but the majority of beauty and spa businesses can now begin to trade in a realistic way that allows them to offer their most popular and profitable services, following almost five months of restrictions. See the full story on page 7.

For most, this has been the toughest period in their business’s history and it has been heartwarming to see professionals, many of whom are struggling themselves, support those who have fallen through the gaps in Government funding. The work of PB’s official charity partner, the Hair & Beauty Charity, has never been more important, so the Beauty Backed campaign, which has raised more than £336,000 for the charity so far, has been incredible, and will hopefully continue.

As beauty businesses return to work, we’re very happy that Professional Beauty magazine has returned to print from September, after giving the industry free access to our digital issues from April to August. However, this digital issue is slightly different from the print version because, after printing, we took the difficult decision to postpone the Professional Beauty London event, meaning the show preview pages have been removed from this version. Find out more about the decision to postpone on page 8.
