Illamasqua acquired by The Hut Group, just weeks after Espa deal

The Hut Group (THG) has acquired cult make-up brand Illamasqua in a deal understood to be worth £25m.

The acquisition in October came just one month after THG purchased spa skincare brand Espa for an estimated £100m, solidifying its position as a major player in the professional beauty market. A few weeks prior, the online beauty retailer acquired beauty subscription box company Glossybox.

THG bought Illamasqua from owners Julian Kynaston and Joseph Corré. Illamasqua has long been sold on THG’s beauty retail website Lookfantastic.com.

The brand is also a favourite with professional make-up artists and runs the School of Make-up Art in London, as well as standalone retail stores in Leeds, Liverpool and London. THG founder Matthew Moulding has previously outlined plans to invest around £400 million this year on beauty brand acquisitions and technology projects.
