EDITOR’S COMMENT
News that the overall revenue generated by beauty and hair services is on the rise brings hope for spas and salons this month. According to new data, services contributed £8.5 billion to the UK’s economy last year. Check out the full story on page 11.
However, we know not all beauty business have witnessed such substantial growth in recent months and this issue brings plenty of advice to help boost revenue.
In our skincare feature on page 66, we explore the burgeoning market for cellular rejuvenation therapies such as exosomes, polynucleotides and skin boosters, delving deeper into how each of these trending treatments works on the skin and, crucially, who should be training in and performing each service.
We also look at how aesthetic devices can support therapists to achieve impressive results with lymphatic drainage and investigate some of the best technologies and machines on the market. Turn to page 48 for more.
Of course, one way to improve profits is to cut costs, and this month we also look at how salons can reach their goals of being more sustainable while also saving money. Find out more on page 36. Sustainability is a huge topic for the British Beauty Council too and we unveil the group’s new Planet Positive Beauty Guide for professional beauty and hair services on page 72, which delivers advice on simple ways to be more eco-friendly.
With the Salon Beauty exhibition just around the corner (on October 13–14), we also reveal some of the exciting sessions you can see on our live stages, to learn in person from industry leaders, who will share their knowledge on everything from combination aesthetic therapies to making it big as a session nail tech. Find out more about the event as a whole from page 57, and its education programme from page 62.
We’d love to hear what you think of this issue – and what else we should be covering in the magazine, on our website and on stage at our events. Send your feedback to pb.editorial@thepbgroup.com
