Blood red lip
Trend inspiration:
One of the most striking looks for the Christmas season is the updated red lip – with darker and more vampy hues applied in a slightly dishevelled manner.
At Giambattista Valli’s Paris AW17 show, the standout feature was a stained cherry lip with soft edges, paired with a radiant base and power brows; while at Preen’s AW17 LFW event the look was snogged lips – with models wearing glossy tomato red hues that were bleeding past the lip line.

Make-up artist top tips:
Anushka Patel, brand manager for mineral make-up brand Jane Iredale, which is distributed by the International Institute for Anti-Ageing (IIAA), says to recreate this trend in salon you need to tone it down and have confidence in doing a stained look.
“Start bit by bit – don’t try to apply the lipstick all at once”, she says. “Also, always apply your lip liner first as this creates definition and guides you.”
Patel shows us how to do a softer take on the blood red lip and how to vamp it up for the office party…
GET THE LOOK
Day…
1.
After primer, dot luminous foundation onto skin before blending
2.
Apply a peachy yellow-toned concealer to the under-eye area to counteract redness then set base with compact pressed powder and setting spray
3.
“Take a matte bronzer over onto the hair line, curving it round under the cheekbone then the jawline to chisel the face”, says Patel
4.
Apply a light pink blush to the apples of the cheeks and blend upwards
5.
Fill in brows with a brown brow pencil and apply brunette-tinted eyebrow gel to hold hairs in place
6.
Pat a bronze eyeshadow into the centre and across the moveable lid
7.
Apply a soft black eyeliner pencil along the top lash line but stop at the edge. Smudge to soften, then coat the top lashes in volumising black mascara
8.
Apply red lip liner, starting at the Cupid’s bow and working your way out.
9.
Use a vibrant red lipstick, such as Jane Iredale’s PureMoist Lipstick in Gwen, and blend it onto lips, merging it into the liner to create that stained look before pressing a tissue over lips to mattify.

1.
Press dark brown eyeshadow into the sockets, working on the outer corner, centre of the eye and slightly onto the brow bone
2.
Apply highlighter to the arch of the brow bone
3.
Use the dark brown eyeshadow along the bottom lash line to create extra depth, then apply false lashes
4.
Apply red gloss to give lips that extra dimension.
