EDITOR’S COMMENT

News this month that the Government has finally committed to introducing a licensing scheme for aesthetic treatments in England has been met with enthusiasm by many in the industry. While such a system has been in discussion for years, this marks the first time that the numerous consultations and debates have resulted in a commitment to act.

However, the parameters are as yet unclear when it comes to the qualifications and experience that will be needed to perform each individual treatment, so the beauty industry still has a way to go to ensure that qualified therapists retain access to those aesthetic treatments that it is safe for them to perform. Read our news piece on page 11 for the story so far and the industry’s reaction to the news.

One of the biggest shifts in the aesthetics sector recently has been the increase in treating the effects of rapid weight loss due to the growing accessibility of GLP-1injections such as Mounjaro.

Increasingly, patients are looking to aesthetic clinics and salons for support with the facial volume loss and body skin laxity that comes as a result. Our feature on page 56 explores the reasons behind these effects and what professionals can realistically offer clients to help.

As we head into autumn, this month we also explore the trends and innovations clients will be clamouring for when it comes to nails and makeup. From warm mocha to buttery blur, check out our trend report on page 78. Then, head to page 82 to see what the professional brands have in store for the season ahead.

With entries to the Professional Beauty Awards 2026 closing this month (get yours in by September 15!), we also chat to the team behind one of our big winners of 2025 – Elegant Touch Beauty, which won Large Salon of the Year. Find out how apprenticeships, training and technology have shaped the salon’s success on page 51.
