Facialist Smita Ahluwalia is the owner of the Smita London beauty business in North London and a Professional Beauty Awards judge for 2025 – and she’s vocal about her love of being a home salon owner and the work/life balance it brings.

Her gorgeous clinic is located at the end of her garden in a cottage-style bungalow. Ahluwalia has over 30 years of experience in skin with a special focus on results-driven, advanced treatments. The therapist brings her holistic practices into everything she does and has shared her skills and knowledge as an educator for brands.

Louise Tilden was the winner of Mobile/Home-Based Beauty Business of the Year 2025 at the Professional Beauty Awards.

As well as being an advanced CACI clinic, Louise Tilden Beauty Therapy offers a range of treatments from brows and lashes to full-body waxing for men and women. As someone who entered into the beauty industry aged 38, she is a great one to follow to inspire anyone thinking of switching careers later in life.

Emily Pemberton

Emily Pemberton took the plunge to sell her house to find a home she could run her beauty business out of – and she found The Brick House Beauty in Stafford, which went on to be named Mobile/Home-Based Business of the Year at the Professional Beauty Awards in 2022.

Before going home-based, Pemberton spent three years at Staffordshire’s Hoar Cross Hall spa. Now, she offers mentoring for anyone wanting to follow in her footsteps and become a home-based salon owner

Shea Osei

Shea Osei closed her high street salon in Stratford, East London, in 2021 after the peak of the pandemic to go it alone. Fast forward, and the Essex-based home salon owner is just coming off the back of a giddy press tour surrounding her work on the Wicked movie, shining a huge light on nail art and the incredible work of nail techs. Osei is a firm believer in the power of social media and speaks out about shooting your shot as a freelancer who has a dream of working with someone who might seem out of reach. She is also vocal on important topics such as diversity in the nail industry.

Joanna Staniul

Joanna Staniul began her lash career in 2013 when she completed her foundation training in Poland. Despite the setback of closing her high street salon in lockdown, Staniul was determined to keep offering exceptional lash services, so she opened her home-based salon – Lash and Brow Studio by Joanna Staniul.

Her expertise in lash extension, lash lifts, brow waxing, tinting and lamination has gained Staniul numerous awards, and this year she became a finalist in our Mobile/Home-Based Beauty Business category. Passing down her 14 years of experience in lashing, Staniul is increasingly offering training and mentorship.
