Clients are prioritising results over luxury, says new beauty report
The global beauty industry is still worth $441 billion (£324.5 bn), but growth is slowing.
According to The State of Fashion: Beauty report by The Business of Fashion and McKinsey & Company, annual growth is predicted to ease from 7% between 2022 and 2024 to 5% per year until 2030.
While still strong, the shift reflects a change in consumer behaviour: clients are more discerning with their spending and are prioritising tangible results over branding. This changing mindset means that beauty professionals must go beyond the surface and offer clear evidence of efficacy.
Clients are increasingly sceptical of luxury packaging and celebrity endorsements, with 63% stating that expensive products don’t necessarily perform better.
To build trust, therapists should focus on education; explaining ingredients, demonstrating results and keeping science accessible.
Crucially, value is now a leading factor in purchasing decisions. Clients are not always seeking the cheapest option but want to feel confident that their investment is worthwhile.
Offering shorter versions of treatments, tailored aftercare and flexible service options can help communicate that value in a meaningful way.
At the same time, wellness is becoming integral to beauty routines. There is rising interest in services that support skin health and stress relief, from massage to beauty supplements.
In-person recommendations remain highly influential. For therapists, authenticity, education and visible results will be key to staying competitive in 2025 and beyond.

It explains how HMRC’s Check Employment Status for Tax (CEST) tool can help determine whether an individual is employed or self-employed for tax purposes.

Fresh warnings issued over dangerous nasal tanning sprays
A new warning has been issued over the dangers of nasal tanning sprays as the products experience a resurgence in popularity online.
The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) has issued an urgent warning over the growing popularity of these sprays – often marketed on TikTok and Instagram as fast-acting bronzing solutions. Beauty professionals are being urged to remain vigilant and educate their clients as a wave of unregulated nasal tanning sprays floods online marketplaces.
Unlike traditional spray tans, these nasal products are inhaled and contain substances not approved for cosmetic use in the UK. Of particular concern is the synthetic hormone Melanotan 2, frequently found in these sprays. Reported side effects include nausea, vomiting, elevated blood pressure and mole discolouration.
The situation has escalated with the emergence of flavoured variants including peach and bubblegum, designed to appeal to young audiences.
The Sunbed Association commissions report into consumer opinion
The Sunbed Association (TSA) commissioned YouGov to poll consumers about their opinions on sunbed regulations and restrictions around use.
The poll found that sunbed users had confidence that current regulations protect users and the wider public see the use of sunbeds as a personal choice that adults should be allowed to make.
Gary Lipman, chairman of The Sunbed Association, said: “Almost three out of four UK adults (73%) agree that sunbed use should be a personal choice as long as regulations are followed.”
Current regulations mean tanning salons in the UK must follow rules covering age restrictions, maximum UV output, customer screening and session controls. TSA members, who sign up to a code of practice, must also follow rules around staff training and client education.
