Our exclusive monthly benchmarking stats for each sector of the market

COTTON TRADERS

May was a strong month for many salons, with 43% reporting an uplift in treatment revenue compared to May last year, and 69% average treatment room occupancy – a healthy sign that clients are keeping up their self-care routines. Retail results were more mixed, with 64% of beauty businesses seeing either the same or better retail sales than in May 2024, showing some resilience in a cautious spending climate.

When it comes to staffing, salons are prioritising personality over technical ability, with a huge 96% of owners saying they wouldn’t hire someone with poor attitude – even if their skills were impressive.

As for treatment timings, opinion is split: 46% would consider shortening services if quality remained high, while 45% say they’d never compromise client journeys.
