Big news in microneedling
MicroPen Evo is bringing advanced microneedling treatments to salons and spas
MicroPen Evo – from the company behind SkinPen – is a microneedling device specifically designed for use in salons and spas. Treatments can be delivered by practitioners with a Level 3 including electrical devices or higher beauty therapy qualification, significantly expanding access to microneedling procedures. Here we take a look at the opportunities it presents for meeting growing consumer demand for natural skin treatments.
How does it work?
MicroPen Evo uses micro needles to gently activate the skin’s natural repair process, renewing skin from within. This well-established procedure involves first numbing the skin and applying a glide gel. The microneedling pen is then moved gently across the treatment areas.
Directly after treatment, the skin may look pink or feel warm – similar to mild sunburn. Most redness fades within a couple of days, depending on the depth of treatment and the client’s skin sensitivity. Many clients notice a healthy glow straight away, with improvements continuing to build over several weeks. Most start with a series of three or more treatments, spaced four-to-six weeks apart, with a customised plan based on individual skin goals.

Who can it help?
MicroPen Evo treats a range of skin concerns including improving the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkes
- Acne scars
- Surgical scars
- Enlarged pores
- Stretch marks
- Pigmentation
It is safe for all skin tones and types. Clients also appreciate the minimal downtime and natural results, without heat or chemicals.
MicroPen Evo should not be used on clients who have active skin cancer, open wounds, sores or irritated skin at intended treatment sites. It is also unsuitable for those who have an allergy to stainless steel or anaesthetics or a bleeding disorder, or for clients who are pregnant, nursing or taking medicines containing isotretinoin.
How is it designed
?
Light, compact and cordless, the MicroPen Evo uses an easy-to-connect turbo safety cartridge for simple, single use. As well as being ergonomically angled to enhance visibility during treatment, the cartridge has a customisable needle depth in precise 0.25 mm increments.
Power is delivered by a 4+ hour lithium-ion battery with rapid, wireless induction charging. The device has a gentle sound profile too, despite a powerful 7,000 RPM motor with piston-driven torque. Engineered with lightweight aerospace-grade magnesium alloy, the sealed body supports safe, hygienic use.
What opportunities does it present?
Not so long ago, microneedling procedures were the preserve of medical aesthetics clinics. Today, the availability of MicroPen Evo gives salons and spas the opportunity to both differentiate themselves from competitors and generate a lucrative additional revenue stream. It taps into growing client demand for natural skin treatments without heat or chemicals. Its minimally invasive nature means there is typically little or no downtime, supporting a substantial return on investment.
Jodie McLuskie owner and founder Skinsitute Clinic and Academy in Glasgow says, “At Skinstitute, we work with only the latest and most innovative technology, and this is why we use MicroPen Evo. Delivering consistent and outstanding results for our clients in targeting a variety of skin concerns, making it one of our most popular treatments in clinic.”
