March 2024 was a mixed bag for beauty salon owners, with a robust 47% reporting improved treatment business compared to the previous year. However, retail sales experienced a moderate decline, with 39% of you seeing a drop.
With the Government recently announcing that SMEs no longer have to contribute to apprenticeship costs for 16-to-21-year-olds from April 1 (read more on page 14), we wanted to know the reasons why some businesses may still not want to employ apprentices. Out of those surveyed who said they didn’t employ apprentices, the main reasons were budget constraints and not needing any additional staff members, while difficulties finding qualified candidates and not having adequate training resources were also concerns.
