EDITOR’S COMMENT
The issue of treatment pricing has been a hot topic this month as the interest in, and support for, the new National Nail Tech Price Increase Day initiative drew attention to a broader issue within the beauty industry as a whole.
It shone a light on the fact that many professionals are not charging their worth, whether that be due to anxiety around raising treatment prices for loyal clients, a tendency to discount for friends and family, or simply confusion around how to price services in a way that will generate sufficient profit to draw a decent wage and allow for growth.
In our news review on page 20, we explore the issue further, sharing advice from some of the UK’s leading nail techs on how to approach pricing and also how we can elevate the perception of the industry, and the skill and training it takes to provide these services, in order for higher treatment prices to become the norm.
Meanwhile, in our operational advice column on page 64, multi-site salon owner Lilac Miller lays out the groundwork you need to do to calculate treatment prices that will work for you and your businesses, taking into account product costs, wages and overheads.
As well as pricing, client loyalty is obviously impacted by customer experience, and this month, we look at how to offer stellar service in a market where every client has a different view of what that means. Check out Hellen Ward’s column on page 40 for ideas on how to get it right every time.
This issue also explores ways to attract new client groups into your business by expanding your treatment menu, from 10 tips for waxing men (page 57) to getting your services right for pregnant clients (page 67), to ideas on how to take your luxe manis to the next level (page 28), we’ve got all bases covered.
