Finishing Touches Group Meso Skin Needling

The Finishing Touches Group (FTG) is launching two skin-needling treatments using its new multi-functional device The Vogue.

Meso Me uses a hyaluronic skin infusion from Cell Biologique, exclusive to FTG, and an 18-point plastic needle cartridge to rejuvenate skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improving texture. It takes one to two hours and is aimed at clients who want minimal trauma and downtime.

Meso+ is more intense and uses skincare infusions and a six-point metal 0.5 cartridge to smooth stubborn wrinkles. The treatment can take up to two hours and is also good for specific skin concerns such as acne or rosacea.

The brand recommends a course of one to six treatments. The Vogue machine is also suitable for cosmetic and medical tattooing, tattoo removal and scalp micropigmentation.

The Vogue costs £2,750. Finishing Touches Group recommends charging from £75 for Meso Me and £125 for Meso+. Call the brand on 01444 414744

This month we tried… Murad Technoceuticals Retinol Dual-Phase Power Peel

The lowdown: The most intense of Murad’s new Technoceuticals range of peels, the Retinol Dual-Phase Power Peel layers retinol with a tri-acid complex of AHAs for enhanced penetration. While the peel is aimed at mature skins with loss of firmness or “severe” lines and wrinkles, Murad’s director of education and training Tracey Wilmot said it would help clear up my spots and blackheads.

The experience: After getting my peel history to make sure my skin could tolerate the treatment, Wilmot double cleansed my skin with Essential C Cleanser, using steam for a deep clean. She then applied Prepping Solution and protected my lips with Soothing Skin and Lip Care before swiping a pre-soaked Retinol Infusion Treatment swab over my face, neck and décolleté.

This was layered with the the AHA Active Peel. Both products are packaged in single-use tubes. The therapist would usually do a hand-and-arm massage while the retinol treatment was on, but because clients would usually be stepped up to this peel, Wilmot left it on for just three minutes rather than the usual 10. I got my massage after Wilmot applied Soothing Cream Mask. My skin was sealed with new Multi-Vitamin Infusion Oil, followed by Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture and Invisiblur Perfecting Shield SPF 30. As a closing ritual she wiped a warm towel over my back and shoulders and massaged in Youth Builder Massage Cream. The peel itself was comfortable and effective – five days later and my skin is totally clear.

Business Benefits: Murad has created a luxurious ritual around this peel, which may be more intense than salon clients are used to, elevating it to a nurturing experience. The pre-measured, single-use solutions ensure no product is wasted.

Murad recommends charging from £65 for the treatment. Call the brand on 0844 472 7050 Tried by Georgia Seago

This month we tried… HydraFacial Core Treatment

The lowdown: HydraFacial is widely known as the original machine-based facial to use patented vortex technology and a vacuum hand-piece to cleanse, gently peel and infuse the skin with hydration. There are a few different treatments that mix and match various elements, such as the anti-ageing, brightening and acne scarring facials. As part of the HydraFacial World Tour, where the brand held events around the globe to introduce people to the treatment, I had the 30-minute version that includes the four core steps.

The experience: My therapist Lynsey Copeland, who is area consultant for HydraFacial, explained that just by doing the three key steps – exfoliation and peeling, extractions and serum infusion – in 30 minutes, I’d see impressive results, namely clear, quenched skin with a fresh glow.

In each stage, Copeland passed the hand-piece over my skin, spending a little longer on areas of congestion during the extractions phase. It was completely comfortable and I just felt a gentle suction. After my skin was cleansed, gently peeled to remove dead skin cells and pores purged, Copeland inserted a serum cartridge into the device for the infusion stage. She chose Antiox-6 for my skin, with low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, white tea, rosemary and horse chestnut extracts, and vitamins A and E. Copeland was right – after the facial my skin looked plump, nourished and glowing, with a definite improvement in brightness.

Business benefits: HydraFacial is a great option to introduce to the salon to step up clients who visit for deep cleansing facials. The gentle but effective vortex technology adds a tech element without any gimmicks and gives far more effective clarifying results than can be achieved with traditional manual extractions.

There’s also a skincare regime for retail that includes the Antiox-6 serum in a homecare size, so clients can maintain skin health between appointments.

Hydrafacial recommends charging from £140, depending on length of treatment and geographical location. Call UK distributor The Consulting Room Group on 01788 577254 Tried by Georgia Seago

Sothys Athletics Treatments

Sothys has created two new treatments to heighten the effects of a client’s workout. The Nutri-relaxing Remodelling deep-tissue massage is perfect for those looking to ease muscle aches and prevent stiffness.

For experienced athletes, medium pressure is used to aid muscle definition post-workout, while for those new to fitness, the treatment is tailored to their needs to increase suppleness.

It’s available as a 60-minute treatment, targeting the back and legs, or as a 75-minute session, where the stomach, neck and arms are also massaged.

The 45-minute Smoothing/Warming Professional Treatment aims to help any gym-goer’s body prepare for working out. Smoothing Warming Gel is massaged into the buttocks, thighs, legs, abdomen and arms to loosen up and prepare the client for exercise, before the Detox Mousse Wrap is applied to warm the muscles.

The treatment finishes with Nutri-Relaxing Oil rubbed into the client’s core muscle areas to further aid circulation.

Sothys recommends charging between £50 and £60 for each treatment. Call the brand on 01303 262666
