Q&A
SCIENCE MEETS WELLBEING
With more than 30 years in the beauty and skin health industry, Smita Ahluwalia, founder of Smita London, has built a reputation for combining scientific precision with a holistic touch
What inspired you to open your own clinic?
“I have a chemistry degree, and I’ve always had an interest in skin and skincare, so becoming an advanced therapist suited my skills perfectly. But I really wanted to be my own boss rather than working in somebody else’s salon. I can do everything my way, and I love that.”
What makes your clinic stand out in London’s competitive beauty scene?
“While my garden clinic is in London, it doesn’t feel like it. My garden room is like my own personal Soho Farmhouse fairytale that I get to share with my clients. Unlike regular clinics, people aren’t bumping into each other in corridors or waiting rooms – it’s private, discreet and tranquil.
“I think my science background also sets me apart. I’m not just about making people look pretty; I educate clients on the science behind treatments and skin health.”
What are the most common concerns your clients come to you with?
“Skin health, ageing and overall wellbeing. I see issues like dehydration, dullness and sensitivity, often linked to lifestyle, stress or hormonal changes. My approach is holistic: I take time to understand their skin and what’s going on internally, then create a tailored plan that combines technology, hands-on techniques and education to empower them to care for their skin between visits.”
What made you decide to introduce LPG’s Cellu M6 Infinity to your clinic?
“Although I’m primarily a facialist, I was drawn to LPG’s philosophy after experiencing the treatment myself. I noticed visible results straight away, which convinced me I needed to offer it. I thought, ‘If I love it, my clients will too.’
“What appealed most was the holistic, wellbeing-focused approach: detoxification, lymphatic drainage and stress reduction. Many of my clients are menopausal, and during that stage lymphatic flow can become sluggish. The LPG Cellu M6 Infinity helps support the body’s natural functions, reduce stress, and enhance wellbeing while providing instant lifting results for the face. It aligns with my philosophy of caring for the whole person, not just their skin.”
How does it complement your existing treatments?
“Massage can take its toll on therapists. Having the LPG device means the technology does the work for me – it’s easier on my body and delivers a more powerful result than I can with my hands alone. I also love how the facial handpiece gives an instant lift – it provides that wow factor that keeps clients coming back.”
From a business perspective, how has investing in advanced technology helped you grow?
“It’s attracted new clients and increased loyalty among existing ones. It’s boosted revenue and positioned my clinic as a place where science meets wellbeing.
“At 51, I also need to protect my body and energy, and the Cellu M6 Infinity helps me save time and effort, leaving me more energy to focus on education and growth.”
What advice would you give other clinic owners thinking of expanding their treatment menu?
“Take your time and do your research. Don’t just add something because it’s trending. Make sure it aligns with your philosophy and your clients’ needs. Try it for yourself, assess results, and ensure it complements your current offering.”
What’s next for you and your clinic?
“I’m continuing to educate and innovate. I have new courses in facial reflexology, acupressure and retail strategy coming soon, and I’m excited to keep exploring new ways to bring wellness and longevity into my clients’ lives.”
