10 MICROBLADING tips

Nez Hasan has built her reputation as one of the UK’s leading brow artists by combining precision microblading with a passion for natural beauty. She shares 10 tips for fellow professionals to elevate their own work

1 Understand who suits microblading

Not every client is a candidate. “People with coarse, thick brows usually won’t suit it,” Hasan explains. “It’s amazing on finer, flatter hair because the tattoo sits like 3D.” She is honest with clients: “If it’s not right for them, I’d rather not do it because it’s my name underneath that brow picture.”

2 Communicate maintenance clearly

Many clients ask for a lifted “Botox-effect” look, and Hasan delivers it, but only with full disclosure. “If they don’t want to maintain with constant threading then I explain I’ll have to tattoo a bit lower.”

3 Stay light-handed

The difference between elegant microblading and heavy-handed work is pressure. “You’re not cutting the skin,” she explains. “You’re scratching gently. If you go too deep, you’ll cause pigment to heal grey or ashy.” Using a high-quality U-blade and premium pigment keeps results fine and true to tone.

4 Respect the natural shape

Hasan’s golden rule is to never force symmetry. “Everyone has one brow higher than the other. Your job is to enhance what’s there, not to fight it.” She advises keeping within the client’s natural shape. “Go over the hairs and you risk a client who loves it on day one but cries a week later.”

5 Create soft realism

Forget harsh, blocky brows. “Small touches are everything,” says Hasan. “Brows should enhance the client’s beauty naturally with what she already has.” Her focus is on believable, barely-there strokes that mimic real hair growth.

6 Keep evolving

The brow world changes fast. Hasan urges artists to stay curious: “When the market’s saturated, you have to look out for new treatments to offer.” To set herself apart, Hasan offers micro-shading and powder brows as well as creating branded treatments such as Pigment Wiper.

7 Prep before pigment

Before microblading, Hasan advises using vitamin treatments to strengthen the hairs. “Grow what you can first,” she says. “Healthy brows give better healed results.” Her vitamin-infused brow-growth treatment gives clients another option, stimulating follicles to encourage natural regrowth.

8 Maintain healed results

For clients with existing SPMU, Hasan recommends tinting and gentle shaping between top-ups. “Tint catches the pigment and makes it look fresh again,” she notes, “while threading or waxing pops the shape.”

Prioritise client trust

For Hasan, great brows start with communication. “Be transparent about everything – pain, healing, and maintenance,” she says. “When clients trust you, they’ll follow your advice, leading to the best results.” She believes long-term success comes from building relationships based on honesty, care and consistency.

10 Keep learning

Even after nine years, Hasan continues refining her craft. “I teach perfection courses for artists who’ve trained but still don’t feel confident. Training is just the start, experience is what makes you an artist.”
